I am looking at buying a puppy, but have not had much luck at finding
information about how these dogs get along with an indoor cat. I have
hoped that if they are puppies and grow up together from that point,
that they will do fine. If you have any suggestions please feel free
to let me know.

I love these dogs !!!!!!!!

Allyson Tohme   08/Aug/2002:07:06:20
I dispute that anyone who knows weimars well would have to agree with
those reasons. I think I know weimaraners fairly well having had them
for 12 years. As for doing well in the show ring that depends on how
you define "well" there are quite a few undocked Weimaraners being
shown with considerable success and qualifying for Crufts my own
included. My bitch Fursdon Fabrication had a full tail and did
reasonably well in Working Trials qualifying CDex UDex WD Open all with
places before her untimely death from gastric torsion (a fate far worse
than having a tail!).

re entry below
You are of course entitled to your opinion but we as a club still expect
tails to be docked and dew claws to be removed hence the wording on our
website. We believe that there are very sound reasons for doing so and
anyone who knows weimars well would have to agree with those reasons.
I do not intend debating the docking issue with you but I will point
out that we were totally opposed to the KC changing the wording of the
breed standard which unfortunately was forced upon them by European
legislation. I would also point out that no weimar with a full tail
has done well in the show ring or in working circles - I leave you to
ponder why?

Allyson Tohme   06/Aug/2002:13:11:16
I was shocked to see that on your website under frequently asked
questions that you state that "puppies with undocked tails or still
having their dew claws are not worth as much" as the going rate of £400
- 500. I would like to know on what criteria this is based! The fact
that a Weimaraner retains the tail it was born with is NOT a defect and
does not render it any less valuable either in the show ring or for
working purposes; neither does it indicate a lack of concern on the
part of the breeder both for the breed and for the homes into which
they are placing their puppies; I speak from experience both in the
ring and working. To dock or not to dock is a matter of personal
choice and does not impede a dog's ability to work or win in the show
ring either in this country or abroad.

I am surprised that personal prejudice is allowed to appear on a site
which can be accessed by complete novices who will take away with them
the completely erroneous impression that those people wh

Just found your web page and thought it was great. Me and my best mate
(after my wife that is) a 4 year old weimaraner called monty have just
taken up obedience training and tracking work. So I'm beginning to get
an interest in shows and trials, thererfore found the site really
interesting. It is so obvious that he just loves to have an interest
and to be doing somthing different. I am a member of the kennel club
but may look to join yours shortly aswell.

Justine Moses   29/Jul/2002:15:13:37
I will never forget the day when Jean Fairle of Glasgow handed over to
me my new weimaraner puppy - Tasq. Tasq is my soul mate and my
companion we are inseparable, even though I am married and Tasq has two
new play mates (my husband's dogs) we still have quality time together
just me and him. He understands me and makes me happy when I am sad, I
really do love him so very much.

Visited the site many times for information on breed.
I have now decided to go for Weimeraner (dog or bitch) after months of
research. Could anyone provide me with a list of recognised breeders in
and around the Strathclyde and surrounding areas preferably, also all
of Scotland would be fine.

I wonder if anyone can help me!! I have a 18 month old weimaraner male,
although he's very lovable and boisterious i've come to a point now

suggest any tips or points i could use with him to really bring the
best out of him. Also love to here about other trials and tribulations

getting on with your suggestions. liamgeorge@hotmail.com

Katrina -&- Chris   10/Jun/2002:16:06:24
Having lost our beloved beardie cross collie Honey - 1988-2002 - the
house was empty of the patter of feet as the cat doesn't make enough
noise - we decided to get a Weimaraner puppy (Chris has always loved
the breed). Completely different breeds but the same happy attitude
and personality and the noise in the house is fantastic - although the
cat is not as impressed!!!

Sky is settling in well and loves everyone and everything - but those
legs get everywhere first causing a few bruises - need to speed up the
reaction time!

We both look forward to becoming members of the club and hopefully
meeting up with other Weimaraner owners!

Lindsay Yule   02/Jun/2002:11:04:59
can anyone send me a list of breeders around the aberdeen area
please.also price lists-vet bills etc.thinking of adding a weimaraner
to my ever increasing family of one cat,one miniature poodle, three boys
and not forgetting the wife.

Gilbert Lawrie   28/May/2002:21:35:39
Well here we are "Blue" is now one year old as of today 28th May 2002.
It really doesn't seem like 15 months since we lost our beloved 12 year
old Springer Spaniel "Bergan" nor does it seem like 12 months since we
visited the Ingliston Show to determine if we were suited to either a
Hungarian Vizla or a Weimaraner.

After seeing both breeds side by side there was only one choice,
particularily as all the Weimaraner owners we met seemed so happy.

On our way out we luckily bumped into Brian Hamilton who invited us
along to the Tuesday night training sessions held by the Weimaraner
Club of Scotland. There we met many kind and honest people who gave us
an insight into the good and bad of Weimaraner ownership.

We really wish to thank Andrew for his initial help in sourcing a
wonderful breeder in Joan Dixon and we count ourselves very lucky to be
in the right place at the right time. Andrew also helped greatly in
starting our training regime on the right foot (excuse the pun)and

Amanda McCrone   11/May/2002:15:29:09
I reciently had the pleasure of babysitting a weimaraner for 5 days,
and when he went back to his owner i was devastated, these dogs are
almost human, and you could melt in their eyes. Anyway, now i am left
with lots of dog food and treats even a training harness but no dog
and i would gladly take on an abandoned weimaraner, one who i can
train to like my cat and other animals.

Please can anyone help me I feel so empty..........

So interesting to come across this site with so many names of old
friends in the show ring;it brought back wonderful memories of my boy
Luke (Gunalt Rodier) 1988-1999. Never to be replaced.

I am now married, living near Glasgow (originally from Fife) and a
qualified vet nurse as well as part time wedding photographer. The
Weimaraner was such an important part of my teenage years.

I am Senior VN of a rescue vet clinic, -&- owner of a mongrel who I
nursed through parvo. After seeing so much cruelty -&- heartache through
rescue work, I doubt I shall ever get a pure bred again unless through
rescue (-&- unfortunately we have had a few Weims come to us).

Aren't Weims wonderful dogs, beautiful to look at, but also stubborn as
hell -&- heart breaking to lose.

I LOST MY TEN AND A HALF YEAR OLD MALE WEIMARANER, MAX , TO PROSTRATE CANCER A YEAR AND A HALF AGO AND I MISS HIM LOTS. HE WAS MY BEST FRIEND, A WONDERFUL ,GOOD NATURED, PLAYFUL DOG WHO LOVED ALL PEOPLE
ESECIALLY MEN, OTHER ANIMALS (I HAVE CATS AND RABBITS) AND FOOD.

NO OTHER DOG COULD EVER REPLACE HIM BUT IF MY LIFESTYLE SUITED I WOULD DEFINATELY HAVE TO HAVE ANOTHER WEIMARANER. FROM THE MOMENT I SAW MY FIRST ONE I WAS HOOKED. THEY ARE JUST SUCH BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS.

MAX FATHERED ONE LITTER OF TWELVE PUPPIES WHEN HE WAS ABOUT 14 MONTHS OLD. THERE WERE 6 DOGS AND 6 BITCHES. ONE DOG , HECTOR, I KNOW
WAS BOUGHT BY SOMEONE WHO LIVES NEAR TO ME BUT I'D BE INTERESTED WHERE THE REST WENT AND ARE THERE ANY STILL LIVING? HIS PEDIGREE NAME WAS
ISTONES EMPEROR WILLIAM AND THE PUPS WOULD HAVE BEEN BOUGHT ORIGINALLY
FROM AN EX FRIEND OF MINE WHO LIVED IN A COUNTRY PROPERTY NEAR GREENGAIRS,BY AIRDRIE.I THINK THE PUPS NAMES HAD A BOOZE RELATED THEME.

Hi, just had to congratulate the Club on a great site, which is both
interesting and informative. It is evident that a lot of hard work has
gone in to the production of the site for the benefit of everyone who
has a keen interest in the breed.

Congratulations and keep up the good work!

To non members of the Club, I trust that you too found the site most
interesting, and remember this is only a scratch of the surface to how
you can benefit from the Clubs activites. Since we joined with our dog
Glen, we have benefited from endless support, advice and encouragement
from other club members, and I really must stress that the obedience
training was an absolute god send, although our dog is not the most
obedient, when partaking in the clubs activites, he really has came on
leaps and bounds, from the training sessions we attended during his
puppy years, making him a welcome and more importantly liveable Pet.

My advice if looking for a puppy is to go through the Club, we made a

I would appreciate it if anyone could offer me some advice on buying a
male weimaraner puppy. I live in the Lothian area and would like to

price/vet bills etc would also be helpful.

have ever shared my life with.

Donna Kelman   05/Feb/2002:22:51:11
I am the proud owner of Georgie. She is a beautiful 18 month old
Weimaraner. We purchased Georgie from Margaret Smith, a very
experienced breeder in Fyfe.

Georgie has a wonderful nature and is fantastic with my six year old
son Jack and his mates who are always rolling around playing with her.

I would fully recommend a Weimaraner to anyone who enjoys long walks
and has the time to spoil a dog as these dogs deserve to be spoilt.

I quite enjoyed looking at your website - very interesting. I'm a
Canadian weim breeder, and a member of the Weimaraner Association of
Canada. It's interesting to see what's going on with weims in other
parts of the world.

Joanne Hendricks   12/Jan/2002:16:16:38
Excellent website, definitely better than the one we had back in RSA.
Have just emigrated back from there, complete with Weimaraner bitch,
Abbey. Unfortunately she's in quarantine at present -&- we all miss her
loads. Just been to see her - she's looking good! Can't wait to have
her home with us. Being a Weimy owner without a Weimy around is a very
lonely life indeed.
Keep up the good work WCofS, hope to become a member real soon. I would
welcome any comments from Weimy owners who have had their dogs in
quarantine. Many thanks

Living in the carribean, on the island of Curacao, N.A. for a few
years, we are the proud owners of two Weimaraner bitches, who are
really great and lovable, and great with kids. Only one of them has
created a skindisease which gives us great troubles. Vets here are not
what they are in Europe, and we've given up hope. I hope to get in
touch with Gary McCabe of your club who had a simular problem with his
dog. Furthermore we love Scotland, which we visited very often, and
love our Weimaraners, so what a combination it is !! Keep up the good
work, and who knows, one day we'll meet, and enjoy our great dogs !!
We will visit your clubsite regulary. In about 10 months we will return
to Holland, and who knows....maybe the skin will heal in the Europe
climate...
Kind regards, Jan -&- Diana Vonk.

It's lovely to see such a difference in things since I first joined the
WCGB/ Scottish Club a long time ago (since lapsed but a new membership
applicatipon on its way to you). I happened by the site whilst trying
to find a nice puppy for some friends of mine...... still looking.
Weimeraners at my fingertips whenever I want them now!

I had my first grey "boy dog " for 15 years, I guess it's 6 years since
I lost him , I still miss him yet but I eventually plucked up the
courage to fill the void with "Cassie" my lovely "girl dog" who is 4
now.

My friends Grace and Brian are looking fot a bitch pup from August
onward. We all live in the Scottish borders so would love to hear from
anyone who has or is about to have a litter. You can get me on the
above e- address. kay

Where were you when we got Midas 2 years ago, he chewed everything from
doors to shoes and of course hurt himself at 13 weeks old. Now that we
have learned the ropes, moved house, got a big garden, paid the vets
bills,S.A.D.,and caught up on sleep we just had to have a Molly 8 weeks
old and great so far. Enjoyed the site and can now laugh at guest
comments as we have been there and back.
But we wouldn't be without Midas and now Molly.

We are currently hoping to source a puppy over the next few months and
look forward to hopefully being able to join the Club.

We recently lost our springer Spaniel a loyal companion for 10 years
and the successor to our Yellow Lab who was with us for 11 years prior
to that.

Living in Houston Renfrewshire next to acres of woodland and the River
Gryffe we feel a Weimaraner would be ideal, Fiona is at home all day
and need s a loyal, loving and protective dog.

If anyone reading this knows of any available upcoming litters we would
be most grateful for your response.

Great site and great idea of a club, Brian has invited us along to one
of the training evenings at Blantyre over the coming weeks which we
hope to be able to attend.

Kind regards

Gilbert -&- Fiona

Great site! I do not have a weimaraner at present but hope to get one
when i have more time to spend with it(I currently work full time). I
would however be interested in going to a weimy show in the Central
Belt as a spectator. I have read alot of books -&- info on the net but
feel there would be no better way to get a definite feel for the breed
than meeting some of it's memers in person. If any one has any info
please email me. Thanks in advance. Mo

Finally got technical! Well done on a good informative site. I enjoyed
going through it all, and reading guest book. (to Roz Buckley an Bevan =
I've got a longhair as well as shorts).

Great website with lots of useful information. We are new Weimeraner
owners in Buenos Aires, Argentina - of Scottish descent. Our puppy is 4
months old and displays all the characteristics you describe -
including a rather disconcerting habit of accompanying us to the toilet.

Her pedigree name is Alba of Olazabal. Alba is Spanish for sunrise and
as you will know is also an ancient name for Scotland.

Would be delighted to hear from any Weimeraner owners out there in
cyberspace with hints and tips on the breed. Any information on how
early to spay her or anyone who's dog has a problem with its eyelids
would be most helpful.

... and of course training hints and tips.

All the best,

Niall, Bridget and Alba

Congratulations on a very neat site. I was hoping to find some fellow
Weimaraner Longhair enthusiasts listed but unfortunately you do not
mention the longhair anywhere. Maybe you will have something next time
I visit. Overall I found your site very easy to read. Best wishes to
all Wei lovers.

in this manner.

to surf the net!)
